Truffle Hunter FAQ

Fresh truffles are best eaten as soon as possible. When you receive your truffles, we suggest you remove them immediately from the vacuum packing, wrap them individually in kitchen paper and place in an air-tight glass jar in the refrigerator until use. Please don't keep them for more than one week!

When eating fresh truffles raw, we would recommend any full-flavoured dry white wine, for example a Tuscan Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG. Alternatively, try a new-world Chardonnay or Viognier.

We will be walking through natural woods and forest pathways. We highly recommend wearing comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes or hiking sneakers, long pants (to protect from twigs and briars), and bringing a light weather-appropriate jacket.

Truffles thrive in damp conditions and are found underground, so light rain does not stop the hunt (and the dogs love it!). In case of light rain, we proceed with the tour (we can provide umbrellas). In the event of severe, unsafe storms, we will contact you to reschedule or arrange a full refund.

Yes! Our Lagotto Romagnolo dogs are highly skilled professionals with years of experience. We conduct our hunts in private reserve forest areas in San Miniato where truffles naturally grow, ensuring we find fresh truffles on every tour.

For private tours we can arrange private transportation directly from your hotel in Florence — rates are not included and depend on party size (please specify your preference on the inquiry form). Alternatively, San Miniato is easily reached by train from Florence Santa Maria Novella, followed by a short taxi ride.

Truffles found during the hunt are utilized to prepare your tasting lunch. However, fresh truffles and truffle products (like truffle oils, salts, and sauces) are available for purchase directly from the hunters if you would like to cook with them during your vacation. Please note that customs regulations in some countries have strict agricultural rules regarding fresh soil/perishables, which we can guide you on.
